Self Titled Album |
When G.Wayne Thomas produced the soundtrack for the film "Morning of the Earth" he was working with Warner Bros in Sydney. He had already had some chart success with one of his own songs "Take It Easy". "Open Up Your Heart" was the first single released from the album made it to No.1 in Sydney on the 2SM music charts when it was released in 1972. With the title track "Morning of the Earth" gaining some chart success as well. Overall Thomas contributed 4 songs to the "Morning of the Earth" soundtrack, including the title track "Morning of the Earth", "Open Up Your Heart" and "Day Comes" but one song "Getting Back" was deleted when the "Original Soundtrack Album" which was released in 1972 in conjunction with the release of the film.
Crystal Voyager "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" was put together in a rush after Albe Falzon and David Elfick approached G.Wayne to assist with the soundtrack only a matter of weeks before the scheduled release of the movie. Historically this album is viewed by some music fans as a pure pop gem but to others its a bit light on in content and style. G.Wayne himself thinks it was too rushed and can see many flaws!. Overall I believe it fits well with the movie and contains some really great tunes. The soundtrack CD remains in popular demand today.
The "Self Titled" album was released in 1973 and contains Kris Kristofferson's great song "I've got to have you". G.Wayne's version of this song is a classic and would no doubt have received enormous airplay but for the fact that Carly Simon released here version in the United States at exactly the same time in 1972 which was subsequently released in Australia. The album artwork features some great photos of G.Wayne playing a Maton twelve string guitar and his baby face photo on the cover. This album definitely solidified G.Wayne's reputation as one of the top Australian pop performers.
