Morning of the Earth

Crystal Voyager

Self Titled Album

David Elfick is one of the interesting characters behind "Morning of the Earth" and "Crystal Voyager". His involvement reinforces to me that the longevity of "Morning of the Earth" has as much to do with talent and a lining up of some of the best people in Australian music and film at the time the movie was made as it has to do with just sheer good luck.

Elfick along with Albe Falzon and John Witzig had started "Tracks" magazine in late 1969. "Tracks" was a broadsheet style magazine known as "surfers bible" and covered all topics from organic gardening to pot smoking, yoga, surfing competitions and everyting in-between. Elfick was also a staff writer with Go-Set magazine and featured regularly in its pages. He was Co- Director / Co- producer with Albert Falzon for both "Morning of the Earth" and "Crystal Voyager" although his name would later be deleted from "Morning of the Earth" with a deal between Falzon and Elfick removing Albe's name from Crystal Voyager. "Crystal Voyager" would from that time on only carry Elfick's name as producer this was mainly to finalise ownership rights for the movies and solve any control issues that may eventuate.

The Arts and Media Alliance website described David in the following way. "An independent filmmaker for the past 30 years, David played an instrumental part in the establishment of the new wave of Australian films internationally. David has produced and directed feature films and high quality television drama, and most recently reunited with director Phillip Noyce as a producer on Rabbit-Proof Fence (Arts and Media Alliance).

I found a very interesting and informative interview with David Elfick in which he discusses his involvement with Australian film and television right from the very beginning including 'Morning of the Earth" and "Crystal Voyager" please click on this link to see this interview. It runs for approximately 35 mins. ........View INTERVIEW
